Naturally fed,
the lake dates back to the 1600s and resident stock has never been added to it.
Indeed, the prolific growth rate of some species in the enriched environment
has meant that fish have been removed from time to time. The reed-fringed three
acre pool has depths that range from 18 feet to only 18 inches, giving plenty
of all year-round potential. The wild carp, some almost black in colour,
take-off at a phenomenal rate, so keep an eye on your rod at all
times. [Angling Times, December 2001]
Our main three acre
lake (above) is fully stocked with carp, both mirror and common. Golden rudd
and tench are also in residence, plus some very big eels. The largest mirror
carp caught to date is 32lb, whilst the best common carp is 27lb.
Our
five smaller ponds (right) hold many large carp, and are for the exclusive use
of our cabin guests.
Wagglerfished floating baits work very well in the warmer
months, but for
equally good results we recommend using any of the following: bread, sweetcorn,
worm, dog biscuits and luncheon meat.
No long list rules, it's
basically barbless hooks only, no keep nets and one rod per person.
For the safety of children under 16 years, they must be accompanied
by an adult at all times.
